There are plans for a new Hilton hotel to be built in downtown Fort Myers at Jackson and First streets. The hope is that the hotel would bring more economic growth to the area.
There is one catch. The hotel would be 11 stories tall, and there is a 9-story height limit. The city council would have to consider an exception.
The project is supported by the Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency, which has awarded a tax rebate that won't go over $14 million.
The agency says this helps them invest in the revitalization of the community and contribute to more economic growth.
The CRA also states that new projects like this can help encourage new businesses and families to make Fort Myers their home.
