A Fort Myers neighborhood is hurt after learning that a 13-year-old girl who lives there was accused of throwing kittens onto a roof, and ended up killing one.
This took place April 13, just after 10 p.m., at the Royal Palm Gardens neighborhood on Blount Street near MLK Blvd.
Lillian Rodriquez, who lived in the neighborhood for 9 years, is still heartbroken about the kittens.
"I feed the stray cats around here and, outside the gates, and I noticed that there wasn't there, so I figured that they came and got them," said Rodriquez.
The stray cats she took care off gone, a report from Fort Myers Police Department says a girl named Jolissa Mims is the reason why.
Officers say the property manager caught Mims throwing kittens on the roof. When police arrived on the scene to check it out, they saw one of the cats dead.
After reviewing surveillance video, Fort Myers Police arrested Mims and charged the teen with aggravated animal cruelty. Animal lovers like Antwan Miller said those kittens didn't deserve this.
Despite what happened last week, two other kittens from the neighborhood are doing okay, people are praying that something like this never happens again.
"I don't care how old you are, you should never do anything like that to humans or animals," said Rodriquez.
Mims was released from the Lee County Jail, Fort Myers Police Department is still investigating.
