Albert Wheeler, 19, was arrested by Fort Myers Police after he was accused of stealing a customer's vehicle from a car dealership.
Reports say he was an employee at the Hyundai of Fort Myers since February.
The owner of the vehicle dropped the car off in March, later that month, she received messages that her car had been passing through the Cape Coral bridge and charging her for each trip. Reports show at least 7 cases.
The woman quickly went back to the dealership to find out why is her car being used, since it was supposed to be at the dealership for work.
The manager was unable to find the car, and even called a tow service to see if the car was towed.
The incident was reported to the Fort Myers Police Department, where they began investigating. Gulf Coast News spoke to a detective on the case.
"She knew that her car was at the dealership, and there was no reason for it to be driving back and forth across any of the toll bridges. So that's when we got involved," said Mark Edwards.
Edwards believes this was an inside job due to the employee's actions, the department used their cameras they have around the city.
"From there we got an identity of the suspect, and we just worked the case from that point," he added.
In April, the suspect was found driving the car in Collier County by deputies. They eventually arrested Wheeler.
"If that victim didn't keep an eye on their statements from the tolls, we would have never known that it was not at the dealership where it was supposed to be. Thankfully, she was on top of that and that's why we got a successful end to this case," said Edwards.
Wheeler was charged with grand theft auto.
