One woman received letters, stamped with kindness, from hundreds of strangers around the country. This is our letter to her.
Dear Marci,
I know that writing letters is really a lost art, and at 87, I'm sure you've received your share. But this month you can expect a few special deliveries. While you may not know who wrote them, thanks to your daughter Beth, they know you.
Beth told them you're a caring person. That you took care of your dad in his later years before he passed away during COVID-19. She hoped a few letters through non-profit, Love For Our Elders, might lift your spirits. What came after was a nationwide outpouring of kindness from total strangers — from Pennsylvania, to Nevada, to Vermont, California, and more.
These strangers have read about your family tradition of passing a single envelope from one person to the next between you and your sixteen siblings, and about your love for some friendly competition, even referring to you as a "card shark."
They've resonated with your struggles, and, most of all, shown in an age where text messages vanish and voicemails go unheard, they remind us that we're all more connected than we think. Sometimes, all it takes is a stamp, a story, and a little ink.
