A man has been convicted of aggravated battery and kidnapping after attacking a woman and holding her against her will at a motel in 2020.
According to the State Attorney's Office, officers responded to a 911 call at a motel and found Dexter Leonard Thomas holding an infant in a second-floor hallway.
Inside a nearby room, a woman was found injured and surrounded by blood. She had told the man she wanted to leave him, which led to the attack and her being forcibly held.
The jury returned the guilty verdict following a two-day trial in Lee County.
Thomas was identified as a prison releasee re-offender because the kidnapping occurred within three years of his release from prison.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 27.
Thomas is already serving a life sentence for a 2023 conviction tied to a deadly home invasion robbery in Lee County.
