A Punta Gorda Middle School teacher and former Dominican national basketball player was arrested on Tuesday on charges of having sex with a minor multiple times and recording it on video.
According to the booking report, Dagoberto Miquel Peña, 36, was arrested after the parent of the victim found text messages and other evidence of inappropriate communication with the student.
When asked, the high school student from Charlotte County told their parent about Peña's behavior and admitted to deleting more than 400 text messages between the two.
The report states that Peña would buy the student gifts, and they had sex three times, with at least one encounter being recorded by Peña.
After the investigation, Peña was arrested on April 29, on charges of Unlawful Sexual Activity with Certain Minors and Lewd or Lascivious Battery.
Peña is a former basketball player for the Dominican National Team , wo past played in 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He also attended Charlotte County High School and played college basketball for Marshall .
This is currently an ongoing investigation.
