Despite the announcement that extreme drought conditions expanded into Lee County in the last week, April 2025 wasn't even close to being the driest April in Fort Myers recorded weather history.
In fact, it wasn't even close to being in the top 10!
According to data kept by the National Weather Service , only 2 days in April had measurable rainfall. The total for the entire month in the city? A measly .76 inches.
Based on rainfall records dating back to 1902, this means April 2025 was just the 32nd driest in Fort Myers' history.
Being at the height of the dry season, April can be a notoriously arid month in the city. In fact, there's a three-way tie for first place between April of 1903, 1967 and 1970 when just a trace of rain was observed for the entire month.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 for driest months of April would be the two-way tie for fourth place between 2006 and 1946, when .01 inches of rain was measured for the month. Sixth place belongs to 1922 when .02 inches was observed. Seventh place is a tie between 1981 and 1950 with .08 inches. 9th place belongs to 1974 with .11 inches and 10th place goes to 1987 when .14 inches of rain fell.
