Two people were arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamine and marijuana. The vehicle, a truck with heavily tinted windows, was pulled over when the passenger began tossing items out of the window and confronted detectives.
According to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, the items thrown were bags of methamphetamine.
A sheriff’s K9 team conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and alerted deputies to drugs, giving them probable cause to search the truck.
Detectives arrested the passenger, Florencio Vasquez Chavez, 42, and the driver, Stephanie Michelle Matthews, 27.
In total, deputies seized 43.32 grams of methamphetamine and 33.5 grams of marijuana. Chavez, who was released from jail on similar charges earlier in April after posting a $62,500 bond, is now facing multiple charges including trafficking in methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, and resisting an officer without violence. He is being held without bond.
Matthews is facing charges related to possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
