A man was convicted Wednesday of sexual battery after attacking a victim who was asleep in bed at a North Fort Myers home in 2023.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Jonte Andreiz Luis Beerbower, 32, had been visiting a friend when he went into the victim’s room and sexually assaulted them while they slept.
The victim awoke during the attack but could not get the man to stop.
After Beerbower left, the victim contacted a family member and reported the incident to law enforcement.
The sheriff's office investigated, leading to the arrest and prosecution of the defendant.
A jury returned the guilty verdict on April 30. Sentencing is scheduled for June 9.
