Charlotte County deputies arrested a man for throwing a can of corn through his neighbor's window.
Residents along Martin Drive Northeast in Port Charlotte said they are living in fear after years of bizarre and dangerous behavior from a neighbor who they claim routinely throws hazardous objects at their homes, including a bottle of urine, canned goods, raw meat, and even chunks of metal.
Neighbors described an escalating pattern of harassment and vandalism, with objects allegedly being hurled at houses and yards repeatedly.
The most recent incident happened on Friday, when deputies said Ernest Saintvil threw a can of corn through a neighbor's window, shattering the glass. He was arrested in connection with the act, but residents fear the violence won’t stop.
Audrey Kampper said she had to notify a homeowner that her home had once again been targeted.
"She just came down and put $500 into repairing it," said another neighbor, Michele Jarrait. "I called the lady, who lives there, because she lives in Canada, to explain that he had attacked her house again."
Many of the residents are older and said they’re afraid to walk down their own street.
"He hit the lady across the street with a can," Jarrait said. "She was afraid to make a report because she feared retribution."
Despite Saintvil’s arrest, frustration and fear continue to grow. Neighbors say the behavior has gone on for years without meaningful resolution.
"Someday, he’s going to hurt somebody," said Ray Miller, another longtime resident.
Jarrait echoed a plea many in the neighborhood are now making.
"We're at our wits' end. If there’s anything anybody can do to give us help — and give him help — we need it," Jarrait said.
