A man from New York was arrested Wednesday after police said he damaged a Tesla at a beach parking area in Naples earlier this month and was later spotted by the car’s owner.
According to the Naples Police Department, officers received a report on April 19 about a Tesla that had been vandalized at the 7th Avenue South Beach End.
Surveillance video from the vehicle’s integrated cameras showed an unidentified man scratching the side of the car with a sharp object before walking away.
Police said that on April 30, the vehicle’s owner returned to the same beach access and recognized the suspect nearby. Detectives responded and identified the man as Dimitri George Apletcheff, 73, of New York.
Apletcheff was arrested and faces a charge of mischief.
