Three people in three separate cases have been arrested on child pornography and other charges, including an employee sexually contaminating food at a restaurant, according to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier.
According to Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass, the suspects were investigated after files were flagged through routine investigations into file-sharing and messaging apps.
On March 21, as part of a routine peer-to-peer sharing investigation, FDLE detected a device downloading child sexual abuse material. The IP address led investigators to the home of Kevin Randall Schefield, 42, in Naples. Agents seized multiple electronic devices, where they say they found hundreds of files of child pornography.
Schefield was arrested on Wednesday in Naples and faces 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials, which are second-degree felonies.
On Feb 4. agents were flagged to child porn being shared from a computer at the home of Jason Grant Harrison, 46, in LaBelle. Agents searched the home and said they found several files depicting child porn.
After the search warrant, FDLE said Harrison moved to Jacksonville, where he was later arrested after the investigation of the devices was complete. He will be extradited to Hendry County to face three counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials.
Travis Lee Montgomery, 34, from Bradenton, faces six counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, one count of solicitation of an image from a parent of sexual conduct involving a child, and a first-degree charge of food tampering.
On March 13, the Bellingham Police Department in Washington state, flagged Florida officials to illegal child porn files being shared on the Kik messaging app between a parent in Washington and Montgomery.
Multiple children were involved, and the mother has been charged in Washington after being accused of transmitting photos and videos to Bellingham, which they say were found on his device.
The investigation into the files also led agents to find files they say showed Montgomery performing sexual acts inside a restaurant where he worked, intentionally contaminating food.
On April 30, Montgomery was arrested in Manatee County.
FDLE has served 66 search warrants and has made 21 arrests this year so far.
Fort Myers Special Agent Eli Lawson said, "Every image is a victim, it's not just a photo ... We urge parents to please speak to their children. Educate them on safe internet use."
