The No. 7 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers are headed back to the FCSAA Final Four — this time making program history.
FSW stormed back from an early 3-0 hole to defeat Pensacola State 9-3 in Sunday’s winner-take-all Game Three of the Fort Myers Regional, earning a spot in the semifinals for the second straight year — a first for the Bucs. It all came less than a week after FSW won its first Citrus Conference Championship.
It was a shaky start. Pensacola scored twice in the first before FSW recorded an out, then added another run in the second. But the Bucs responded in a big way, scoring nine unanswered behind clutch hitting from Michael McAloose and dominant pitching from Cole Greer and Nicholas Lorenz.
McAloose went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs, while Greer struck out 12 over six strong innings to earn the win. Lorenz closed the door with three shutout frames for his second save.
FSW improves to 41-14 and becomes the only team returning to the Final Four this year. The Bucs will face No. 25 State College of Florida Friday at 1 p.m. at Charlotte Sports Park.
