A man involved in a large-scale drug trafficking operation was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years in prison in Fort Myers for transporting large amounts of cocaine from Texas to Southwest Florida using a semi-truck disguised as a produce delivery service.
According to the State Attorney's Office, Baldomero Alanis Jr., 44, was convicted of trafficking in 400 grams or more of cocaine.
In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and all court costs.
Officials said Alanis operated what appeared to be a legitimate shipping company delivering fruit and other goods but was instead moving kilos of cocaine across state lines.
