Lee County approved a $4.4 million agreement Tuesday to buy a 5.21-acre waterfront property in south Fort Myers as part of its effort to expand public boat access.
According to the Lee Board of County Commissioners, the land purchase aligns with long-term goals to enhance recreational options, including boating and park amenities, for area residents.
The site, known locally as Mullock Creek Marina, will be added to the county’s parks and recreation portfolio following required surveys and assessments.
The site, located on Mullock Creek Lane and Pioneer Road, is suited for shallow-draft vessels — ideal for the county’s large population of recreational boaters.
Lee County is home to nearly 50,000 registered recreational boats, ranking third among Florida’s 67 counties.
The seller will demolish several buildings on the property before the expected closing in late September.
After taking possession, the county plans to begin upgrades to the site, which hasn’t seen a new public ramp since 2005.
