Naples City Council leaders will be presented with four options on Wednesday on how to improve the city's rating to keep more money in your pocket.
Naples is currently at Class 5 when it comes to the community rating system.
The Class 5 rating allows homeowners who live in special flood hazard areas to get a 25% discount on flood insurance, but the city says they can do better.
City leaders will be looking at four different options to improve the city's community rating.
Option one is a non-conversion agreement, which would stop homeowners from turning storage or parking areas below flood level into living spaces without the proper permits.
It would make new homeowners follow safety rules and help keep insurance costs low.
The second option is a flood insurance assessment which would report who is covered, who's not and where the city can do better.
The third option is a local mitigation strategy which the city already has a new plan for as of last month.
It's a regional plan to reduce the damage from storms and disasters before they happen.
The fourth option is more future planning, like creating a watershed master plan and updating flood maps to better understand where the water goes during storms.
The Naples City Council will be looking this over at their council meeting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
