Veteran astronaut Winston Scott joined Gulf Coast News to discuss all the exciting new exhibits and fun events that the whole family can enjoy.
Winston Scott is a former NASA astronaut and retired U.S. Navy captain. Scott was selected by NASA and reported to the Johnson Space Center in 1992. He logged 24 days, 14 hours, and 34 minutes as a mission specialist in space during his two missions: STS-72 Endeavour and STS-87 Columbia. Scott performed three spacewalks totaling 19 hours and 26 minutes. But before NASA, Scott grew up in Miami, Florida, and is an excellent trumpet player. He graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music. He earned his Master of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Post Graduate School.
Opening this spring at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, The Gantry at LC-39 provides 360-degree views of active launch pads and NASA's spaceport, along with immersive exhibits that bring space exploration to life. Guests can explore the Rocket Build Interactive, where they can design and virtually launch their own rocket.
With more than 80 launches in 2024 and 100-plus expected in 2025, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex remains one of the best places in the world to witness the excitement of a real space launch. The next launch happening at the Kennedy Space Center will be the Axiom Mission 4 on May 29.
