Fire crews are battling a 30-plus-acre brush fire in northern Collier County Wednesday afternoon.
The fire is between Old 41 Road, to the west, and The Club at Mediterra to the east. Aubrey Rogers High School is approximately a half-mile south.
According to the Florida Forest Service, the fire has grown to 32 acres and is 95% contained as of 8:25 p.m.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office said no structures are threatened and there are no evacuations or road closures at this time.
The Florida Forest Service said three FFS Tractor-Plows, two aircraft, and local fire departments are all on the scene.
Gulf Coast News spoke to North Collier Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Frank Messina, who was on the scene. Messina said the call came in around 3 p.m., the worst time for a brush fire due to the wind conditions, but crews quickly handled the situation.
"No evacuations, no injuries and no damage to any structure, so today [Wednesday] was a win for us," Messina said. "As you know, it's brushfire central out there right now, so no smoking, no burning and no crazy stuff and, you know, hopefully, we can keep it under control here in Florida."
We asked for the cause of Wednesday's brush fire. Messina told Gulf Coast News it's under investigation.
Crews will continue to monitor the area to make sure the fire doesn't start back up.
