Lawmakers in Florida passed the "No vehicle wake flood zone" bill, banning drivers from speeding through flooded streets.
The plan is to lower the speed limit in needed areas when necessary.
The next step is for it to head to the governor's desk to become law.
If disobeyed, drivers can be ticketed in what will be considered a minor offense. Enforcement can happen across the entire state.
St. Petersburg City Council member Brandi Gabbard, who led the passing of the provision, says, "Slowing the speed down to an idle way so that people can still get to their homes or from their homes if they have to go to work. But that it’s slowed down enough so that it’s not pushing that wake."
