A Tice man was arrested Saturday after being accused of killing a kitten by throwing it to the ground before burying it in a backyard.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 6:30 p.m. to a home on Figueroa Avenue in Tice after reports of animal abuse.
Witnesses told deputies they saw the man drinking and violently throwing the kitten, which died on impact, LCSO said.
The suspect, Alfonso Alexander Perez Nas, 24, is also accused of making disturbing comments about killing more cats while holding the kitten above his head.
Detectives with the sheriff's office and members of the Animal Cruelty Task Force conducted a search and later recovered the kitten's body from the yard.
Perez Nas was taken into custody and faces charges of aggravated animal cruelty.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said the act was "disgusting" and reinforced that animal cruelty would never be tolerated in the county. "We will always protect those that cannot protect themselves," he said.
