Two men received life-in-prison sentences Monday after being convicted of second-degree murder for stabbing a man in the parking lot of a restaurant and nightclub in Fort Myers.
Jacinto Lopez Sanchez, 25, and Domingo Rudy Velasco Ostuma, 26, have been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder with a weapon in a joint three-day trial in March.
Both men attacked and stabbed the victim in the parking lot of a restaurant and nightclub off of Palm Beach Boulevard on March 10, 2024. The Fort Myers Police Department responded to a call at El Patron Restaurante, which also has a nightclub, just before 2 a.m.
W hen the FMPD arrived, officers and a security guard at the nightclub apprehended and detained one of the suspects. The other suspect fled the scene but was caught shortly after.
Lopez Sanchez and Velasco Ostuma were roommates. The victim was taken to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead when he arrived, according to the state attorney's office.
The brother of the victim took the stand before the sentencing to give an impact statement. In his statement, the brother said he misses his brother and that his life was cut too short. He also wanted the suspects to be in prison for life.
In addition to the sentencing, both men have been given 429 days' credit for time already served. They will also not be allowed to contact the victim's family.
