A Cape Coral man was arrested Monday after turning himself in at the Charlotte County Jail on a warrant that includes 32 charges related to animal cruelty and abandonment.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrest report and warrant, David Garcia Camejo, 49, entered the jail lobby around 11 p.m. and told deputies he was wanted on a warrant out of Lee County.
Charlotte County Animal Control requested the State Attorney's Office to review the case in 2024, citing a property on Oil Well Road owned by Camejo, where 235 animals were located.
The animal control officer noted at least 29 animals they believed were in poor condition, severely neglected and in need of medical attention.
The final charges sought include six felony counts of torturing or inflicting serious pain or injury causing death to animals, 13 felony counts of tormenting or mutilating animals, and 13 counts of abandoning animals.
Investigators allege the animals involved included horses, goats, pigs, chickens and other livestock, some of which were found dead or showed signs of severe neglect.
The incidents reportedly occurred in October 2023 in Charlotte County.
Camejo was booked without incident, with a bond set at $54,000.
