Crews break ground Tuesday morning to get your kids back into the classroom in northwest Cape Coral.
The Hector A. Cafferata Elementary School building opened in 2006, but was destroyed by Hurricane Ian nearly three years ago.
The building was damaged beyond repair. The roofing was destroyed, and so was much of the inside.
Demolition of the school building happened in March 2025.
The new school building will be located along NW 20th Avenue.
It will no longer just be an elementary school, but it will be the Hector A. Cafferata Jr K-8 School with newly added classrooms and facilities for sixth through eighth-grade students.
The capacity will be nearly 1,820 students to help meet the need for more middle school students.
The cost for the new school is $124,956,952.
The school is expected to be open by next school year, August 2026.
