After over four decades in Punta Gorda, Harpoon Harry’s and the Captain’s Table will close their doors on Memorial Day.
Both the restaurant owners and Fishermen’s Village management said they couldn’t come to an agreement on a lease.
For boaters like Ricky Holtsclaw, the restaurants in Fishermen’s Village are a convenient spot.
“The water's deep, so, enjoyable trip,” Holtsclaw said. “I bring the wife up here for lunch quite often.”
He said he was sad to hear Harpoon Harry’s and the Captain’s Table were closing on Memorial Day.
“That's heartbreaking,” Holtsclaw said. “I hate to hear any business closing up, but especially one that I personally enjoy with my family.”
The restaurants posted on their Facebook, but despite their best efforts, they couldn’t renew their lease.
The management company controlling Fishermen’s Village said the restaurants’ owners wanted a shorter term lease than they were looking for.
“It was just a beautiful scene,” said yearly visitor Marty Dorfman. “It’s a shame that they can't make it.”
Holtsclaw said he hopes his family can still come here for lunch.
“I hope an investor or somebody will come in and rescue this place, because it is worth rescuing for sure.”
A spokesperson with SVN Commercial Partners, the company managing Fishermen’s Village, confirmed that someone is looking to buy the property and open a new space in October or November.
