Hundreds of neglected and abused farm animals were found on a Charlotte County property. Investigators say other animals were already dead on this land next to Oil Well Road near I-75.
"It really was one of the most, the largest animal cruelty case we've ever processed, at least in my history," said Brian Jones with Charlotte County Animal Control.

Investigators say other animals were already dead on this land next to Oil Well Road near I-75. The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office alerted Animal Control to reports of neglected animals in October 2023.
When they arrived, staff was overwhelmed by the number of animals in poor health.
Charlotte County Animal Control shared photos of some of the 238 animals removed from land near Oil Well Road. The pictures show thin horses with ribs showing, along with pigs, goats, chickens and other livestock. Officials also found animal bones on the property.
Because of the sheer number of animals, they called in help from Lee County Animal Services.
"It took us about two to three weeks to process the whole case from start to finish. That means a veterinarian inspecting every animal, making a veterinary report on each animal. The issues related to the animals were from mild to very severe," said Jones.
CCSO arrested David Garcia Camejo on Monday. He came to the jail to say he was wanted on a warrant. Camejo now faces 32 charges for animal cruelty and abandoning animals.
The remaining animals were removed from the property to receive proper care or be rehomed.
