People living on Lauder Street say an abandoned home rotting after being damaged by Hurricane Ian has cost them time and money.
The town of Fort Myers Beach is telling the owner to get the place cleaned up.
Notices can be seen posted at 5740 Lauder St.
The town of Fort Myers Beach is fining the owner for long grass, missing walls, dry, rotted wood and more.
It says the home is leaning over.
Neighbor Dave Feste said debris from the home washed up onto his property during Hurricane Milton.
“It's my biggest concern, I think it's the same as our, my neighbors, is that if we do have another significant storm, that house will become a projectile ammo, if you will,” Feste said. “I've actually walked under the house, and during Hurricane Ian, it was literally lifted up.”
Another neighbor said the owner was ordered to vacate in November last year.
After not getting back into compliance after a late April violation, the homeowner is facing fines again.
“This is not the only one,” Feste said. “They're working their tails off trying to get this resolved, and I think they're doing it as, as they should.”
Gulf Coast News reached out to Wendy McCarthy, the owner of the home, on Monday morning.
We have not heard back.
For the owner, it is not just going to cost a lot to take down the house.
They could have to pay up to $500 in fines each day this home is not taken care of.
