Get ready to bring awareness to your mental well-being. One in five adults in the U.S. are living with a mental illness. May 15 is Mental Health Action Day, a day to take action and provide support to the people in your life.
Beth Hatch, the CEO of NAMI in Collier County, along with Heather Mazurkiewicz from North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District joined Gulf Coast News to discuss how we can take action on support our mental health.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and May 15 is Mental Health Action Day. It’s recognized nationally as a day to shift the conversation from mental health awareness to action, focusing on providing the community with the tools and knowledge necessary to support friends, family and colleagues who may be struggling.

NAMI Collier provides no-cost mental health support, advocacy, and education that inspires resilience and strengthens communities. With a unique combination of local roots and a national network of support, they help people navigate their mental health journey through an array of programs for members of all ages and families. They can meet individual needs from housing, food, and mental health support with impact.
On May 15, NAMI Collier is hosting a Positive Mental Health Block Party from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. You can take a guided tour of the property or meet partners, such as the North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District command staff.
First responders are on the frontlines of emergencies, even mental health emergencies, and knowing how to respond can be lifesaving. It's also important that first responders are aware of resources for themselves and their own mental well-being.
