This morning, Cape Coral city leaders are having some of their first talks on ways to implement these changes, working to make the city more efficient.
They're doing this through a new program they rolled out last month, the Bureau of Transformative Change, also known as BTC, which is a work group.
Through this, residents can look forward to improvements in business permitting, maintenance and procurement processes, while cutting alleged waste in the city.
Getting a business permit can take some time, so can other things like the procurement process. The Cape Coral City Manager, Michael Ilczyszyn, said it often takes the city a lot longer than expected to make a decision, and there isn’t anyone to look over the whole process.
"I do pull permits down here, and it's very frustrating to pull permits because they take so long," Cape Coral business owner Sean Stephens said.
Today, city leaders talked about eliminating waste on things like inventory, processing, transportation and overproduction. It's all to help BTC. The idea is to eliminate waste.
The initiative will be done by Lean BreakThru Consulting Group, a paid consulting agreement with them was presented.
"Ultimately, the goal is that our employees are just doing this routinely throughout their day," Michael Ilczyszyn said. "He said ask the question, 'Why am I doing this? Is it adding value? If it's not, recommend to your manager supervisor that 'Hey, I don't think we need to do this anymore. We can get rid of it.'"
Department heads across the city gathered input from staff to identify priority topics within their divisions that would benefit most from process improvement.
Cape Coral said they will not be getting rid of any employees through this. They hope to make things more efficient, with the same number of people.
