This weekend, there is going to be a hunt for the best hot dog benefiting the St. Matthews House with Naples Hot Dog Safari, a delicious charity event.
On Wednesday morning, "Good Morning Gulf Coast's" Jason Drew met up with the Safari crew at Bicyclette Cookshop to "relish" in the "FUNdraising" efforts to "ketchup" on what to expect.
"Hot Dog Mayor" himself, Russ Martin, in his safari outfit, explained how this all works. On Friday, May 16, Brookside Beer Market is hosting a kickoff party at 5 p.m. It will be serving up hot dogs from "Only Doubles," raising money for St. Matthew's House.
The chef and owner of Bicyclette Cookshop treated us with her entry: a croissant bun and a ham-wrapped dog drizzled with cheese sauce and mustard. These are not your everyday ballpark hot dogs at all.
Saturday is all about the safari. Starting in Whiskey Park at 10:30 a.m., you can get your scorecard, and that $10 donation goes directly to St. Matthew's House, and then off you go to taste and rate delicious variations of hot dogs. You will be judging and rating them on the dog, the bun, toppings, presentation and value. Participating competitors are Midnight Tavern, Sea Monkey Tavern, Ankrolab Brewing Co., Bicyclette Cookshop, Brooks Burgers Vanderbuilt and Downtown.
