A Fort Myers City Council member has how dangerous McGregor Boulevard, near Downtown Fort Myers can be. The popular area draws thousands of people daily, both the driving is a major concern in that area.
People are going too fast and not following the rules of the road despite the number of new signs put up to help make the road safer.
Liston Bochette wants police to help patrol the area to make it safer, and actually is trying to go to the city manager to put the item on the agenda, the city manager is waiting for Fort Myers police Chief Jason Fields to complete a study first.
Gulf Coast News spoke to several people who live near McGregor Boulevard on Thursday. They say the area is dangerous.
"It's worrisome too, because, like, you know, we put all these signs out there to let people know that it's, you can't be doing this," said Nick Gallant.
Bochette knows the area is an issue, two accidents happened on the road on Thursday, he believes it could've been prevented.
"The police do have trouble policing this road because most of it's residential with a few businesses scattered in and out, so it's not a lot of places to sit," Bochette told Gulf Coast News.
The overall goal is to increase the safety along the popular road. Fort Myers Police Department told Gulf Coast News that they're always open to suggestions on how to make our roadways safer.
