A man’s late-night craving for tacos led to a destructive outburst at a closed Del Taco drive-thru early Sunday morning, resulting in a broken window, a 911 call, and criminal charges.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Anthony Izzo pulled into the Del Taco drive-thru in Port Charlotte around midnight Sunday, hoping to satisfy a taco craving.
But employees had already closed the restaurant and informed Izzo they couldn’t serve him — the kitchen had shut down and the meat had been put away for the night.
Moments later, employees heard loud popping noises, prompting one worker to call 911. She told the operator she heard popping noises that sounded like gunshots near the drive-thru window.
Deputies later confirmed it was not gunshots but Izzo striking the drive-thru window with a pipe wrench. They said he repeatedly hit the glass before cracking it, then drove off.
Deputies later tracked Izzo to his home on Birchcrest Road, where he was arrested for criminal mischief. Officials estimate he caused approximately $2,000 worth of damage to the drive-thru window.
