A woman on probation was arrested Thursday in Charlotte County after authorities found drugs and drug paraphernalia near her toddler and learned her newborn had tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to the arrest report, Tesla Renee Roberson, 35, was taken into custody at her Port Charlotte home after a Department of Children and Families investigator reported her infant was hospitalized in Fort Myers and had tested positive for meth.
Roberson reportedly ran away with her toddler when she found out DCF was on the way to the hospital after the positive test.
The next day, deputies found Roberson at her home. A search of her living space, which was located in a garage, revealed several glass pipes, one of which was placed next to a toddler's sippy cup, as well as a container with suspected drug residue, the report states.
Officers also say they found a broken glass pipe and an unknown white pill in a separate wooden container on a nearby stack of boxes.
Roberson is accused of violating multiple probation conditions, including possessing illegal substances and failing to complete a court-ordered drug evaluation. The Department of Corrections recommended she be held without bond, citing the immediate danger to her children.
She was arrested on a felony charge of violating probation related to a prior grand theft conviction and is currently being held at the Charlotte County Jail.
