Fort Myers Beach may see its Moss Marina booster pump, which keeps fresh water flowing to homes and businesses around the town, relocated as Lee County commissioners are expected to vote on the move Tuesday to prevent flooding and storm surge from hurricanes.
The pump currently sits on the town side of the Matanzas Pass Bridge, which is in the path of potential flooding. Lee County commissioners want to move the pump inland to the northern side of the bridge.
Commissioners said moving the booster pump will better protect and harden it against future hurricane storm surge and flooding. This is all part of building stronger and smarter infrastructure, funded by federal grant money.
The price tag on this project is $1.7 million. The Lee County board of commissioners meets on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
