A Port Charlotte man was arrested after being accused of shooting at two door-to-door solar panel salesmen on Monday.
William Mark Williams, 72, was arrested and is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in public.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, the salesmen were going door-to-door on Boabadilla Lane in an attempt to sell solar panel packages. The men knocked on one door, and they were met by a woman who told them to leave.
CCSO said that when the men started leaving, they heard multiple gunshots and saw Williams. He is accused of pointing a gun in their direction and firing multiple times toward them. Deputies said that none of the shots hit anyone.
The men ran to a neighbor's house and asked for help. The neighbor let the men go to the backyard, and law enforcement was contacted then, according to CCSO.
When deputies arrived, they detained Williams. The neighbor also told deputies that they had heard multiple gunshots before the men knocked on her door, according to CCSO.
After obtaining a search warrant for Williams' home, deputies found firearms and ammunition inside the house. CCSO also said that detectives found a spent shell casing on the ground outside and an unspent casing. Williams was then arrested, and he is being held at the Charlotte County Jail.
