The South Florida Water Management District is working with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to conduct a prescribed burn in Glades County on Wednesday.
The burn will take up to 12,000 acres of land.
The burn unit is in Lake Okeechobee, in the Steamboat Marsh unit.
Smoke may be present in the area during the time of the burn.
Prescribed burns help protect lands from uncontrolled wildfires and support the health of South Florida's ecosystems. The South Florida Water Management District routinely does prescribed burns to maintain the health of natural areas and to help manage certain invasive vegetation.
