The Wonder Gardens in Bonita Springs is home to both endangered and vulnerable species whose wild counterparts need our help. May 16 is Endangered Species Day — a day to remember the importance of protecting endangered and threatened species and to raise awareness about conservation efforts.
Kaitlyn Henry, director of Living Collections, and Little Girl, an umbrella cockatoo, joined Gulf Coast News to explain what you can do to help protect these animals before it is too late.
The Wonder Gardens has five endangered species and seven vulnerable species that have been rescued and now call Wonder Gardens home. The endangered species include the Moluccan Cockatoo, Umbrella Cockatoo, Yellow-headed Amazon, Alligator Snapping Turtle and African Spurred Tortoise. The vulnerable species include Blue Crowned Pigeon, Military Macaw, Red-footed Tortoise, Florida Box Turtle, Hermann’s Tortoise, Burmese Python and Great Curassow. They are all on display throughout the many different habitats at Wonder Gardens.
