The man who died in a house fire off Caloosa Trace Circle on Wednesday has been identified as a firefighter for the South Trail Fire Protection and Rescue Service District.
Michael "Mike" McCarty was a firefighter/EMT for South Trail since July 11, 2002. According to a news release , McCarty was also employed with the Upper Captiva Fire Protection and Rescue Service District.
He started his career as a firefighter with the City of Fort Myers Fire Department from September 2000 to July 2002, and also served in the United States Marine Corps.
South Trail Fire said in part that McCarty was a valued member of its family and dedicated his life to serving others.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office is working alongside the Bureau of Fire Arson Explosives Investigations to conduct an active death investigation.
