A Fort Myers man was arrested after being accused of driving under the influence, a hit-and-run and fleeing from deputies in Lehigh Acres on Wednesday.
Yordan Carreras Cespedes, 37, faces five charges including hit and run - accident unattended vehicle or property without leaving ID; flee/elude police - aggravated fleeing with injury or damage; moving traffic violation - driving while license suspension or revocation equivalent status; resist officer - obstruct without violence; and DUI - unlawful blood alcohol - DUI damage to property or person of another.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office does regular school checks and in the report, one of these checks was going to happen at East Lee County High School. The driver of a silver Ford F-150, Carreras Cespedes, was seen driving fast and then accused of running a stop sign.
According to LCSO, Carreras Cespedes is accused of speeding up again past school children, school buses and passing vehicles while driving east on Milwaukee Boulevard near Theodore Veil Street East where the entrance to East Lee County High School is located.
In the report, a LCSO detective attempted to catch up to Carreras Cespedes by turning on his lights and following, but Carreras Cespedes is accused of swerving off the road, appearing distracted and continuing his driving behavior.
The LCSO detective then activated the sirens and attempted to alert Carreras Cespedes. Instead, he is accused of his truck jackknifing, hitting a blue Honda sedan, losing control and driving into a structure in Lehigh Acres, according to the report.
Carreras Cespedes exited the truck and is accused of running into a wooded area after looking directly at the detective. The report notes that the detective chased and caught Carreras Cespedes. Deputies could also smell alcohol on him.
