A Gulf Coast Weather Impact Day has been issued today due to isolated, strong thunderstorms possible in our neighborhoods again Sunday afternoon.
The showers and storms will start to pop up along the sea breeze near Interstate 75 around lunchtime. Inland areas east of Interstate 75 can expect the strongest storms, which will develop mainly between 2 and 5 p.m.
The strongest storms will likely form along and to the east of the Interstate 75 corridor. In the places where they form, frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds will be the main impacts.
For coastal areas west of Interstate 75 in Lee, Collier and Charlotte, the chance of storms is lower. Keep an eye to the sky Sunday and remember that if thunder roars, go indoors.
On days when the sea breeze fires up the widest coverage of storms east of the interstate, coastal areas often see considerably less rain. However, Sunday evening, it will be possible for storm outflow boundaries to pull some rain and storms back toward the Gulf.
Otherwise, Sunday will be another hot and humid day with temperatures climbing into the low-to-mid 90s. With the extra humidity, it will feel like the triple digits, so make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat!
