Dive teams searched a pond and creek near East Mariana Avenue and Whidden Road in North Fort Myers, less than a mile from a stabbing suspect's last known address, as part of an investigation into the stabbing of a 12-year-old girl.
Charlotte County Sheriff's Office marine units and deputies were present at the scene, with divers searching for something connected to the girl's stabbing.
Gwendolyn Girard, 35, was arrested on Monday after being accused of stabbing a 12-year-old girl .
The major crimes detectives said they interviewed Girard and got a full confession, which included the location of the knife used in the attack.
Neighbors saw the divers on the scene for several hours and mentioned that the teams used their yards to access the pond.
They expressed their hope that the woman suspected of the stabbing remains in jail for a long time.
"One of the cops told my husband there was just some evidence that somebody did that was thrown over the creek. Over the bridge there," said Jeanne Angevine, a North Fort Myers resident.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office assisted with the search at the pond, which is less than a mile from where Gwendolyn Girard lives.
Girard is being held at the Charlotte County Jail with a $750,000 bond. The victim has been treated for her wounds and is in stable condition. The investigation is still open.
