A woman was arrested in Charlotte County after being accused of stabbing a 12-year-old in the face and neck and then attempting to hide the body.
On May 26, Charlotte County deputies responded to a call about a child with cuts to the face and neck who was found by bystanders. When they arrived, they found the victim weak and in immediate need of medical attention.
The victim identified the suspect responsible as Gwendolyn Girard, 35. According to the victim, Girard attacked her with a knife, left her under a brush, and left in a gold-colored van.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate the van and Girard.
The van was towed, and Girard was taken in for questioning. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit secured a warrant for her arrest on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated child abuse.
The Major Crimes detectives interviewed Girard and got a full confession, which included the location of the knife used in the attack.
Girard is being held at the Charlotte County Jail with a $750,000 bond. The victim has been treated for her wounds and is in stable condition. The investigation is still open.
