A traffic stop on Tuesday in Collier County led to an arrest due to suspected fentanyl trafficking.
A window tint violation caused deputies to conduct a stop on a white pickup near U.S. Route 41 East around 2 p.m.
While speaking with the driver and passenger, deputies smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the truck. Authorities then had probable cause to search the vehicle. CCSO Vice and Narcotics detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
Authorities found a water bottle on the floor of the passenger side that held a latex glove containing three plastic bags filled with a blue powdery substance. The substance tested positive for fentanyl. The fentanyl weighed 14.6 grams, which is enough to potentially kill 7,300 people.
The passenger, Robert Martin, 36, of Naples, was found in possession of additional fentanyl and narcotic paraphernalia. He was taken to Collier County jail and charged with fentanyl trafficking. At the time of his arrest, Martin, a convicted felon, was out on bond on prior criminal charges.
The driver, Edgardo Vazquez, 41, of Naples, is also a convicted felon. He faces a misdemeanor charge after deputies found marijuana inside the truck.
