Police arrested and charged the suspect accused of opening fire on golfers Tuesday night at the Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida.
Authorities said Daniel Anthony Nobile, 27, was standing on the back patio of a home, shooting at four men whom he did not know.
“While they were on the third hole, they saw the male, didn’t think much of him,” said Jupiter police Chief Michael Barbera. “And then all of a sudden, the shots rang out. And they said there was approximately six to 10 rounds, and some of them were hitting the ground in front of them. So, they took cover. They were very shocked, obviously very unexpected.”
No one was struck by the bullets, and there were no injuries.
Police said once they arrived, Nobile had gone back inside the home.
The golf course was evacuated, and police advised the community to stay away from the area.
Florida Atlantic University’s Jupiter campus is just across the street.
The school posted a warning on social media advising of a possible active threat, telling students to “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT.”
Barbera said police identified where Nobile was and surrounded the home.
He said the suspect then surrendered peacefully.
Barbera said he does not believe there was any interaction between Nobile and the golfers before the shots were fired.
Nobile has been charged with four counts of attempted murder. He is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail.
Investigators are still trying to determine a motive.
