Two people are facing charges related to a deadly 2024 crash that happened on NE Pine Island Road.
Chase Magruder, 22, and Anastasiya Zadorozhna, 28, are each facing one count of vehicular homicide, a felony of the second degree.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department , on July 19, officers responded to the crash involving three vehicles.
Investigators discovered that Zadorozhna and Magruder were street racing, reaching speeds of 125-129 mph, which led up to the crash.
The two drivers then collided with a KIA, driven by 52-year-old Alberto Almeda, who was driving significantly slower.
According to the documents, Almeda was on Pine Island Road, turning off Santa Barbara Boulevard, when the crash sent his car into a water-filled ditch.
Almeda was transported to Cape Coral Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The CCPD stated that DNA and other investigative tactics led to the discovery of Zadorozhna and Magruder's identities.
The State Attorney's Office issued arrest warrants for Zadorozhna and Magruder on May 12. Zadorozhna voluntarily surrendered at the Lee County Jail the following night, and Magruder was detained by U.S. Marshals on Thursday.
Magruder was caught in Susquehanna Township, Pennsylvania. He is also facing a DUI charge after investigators determined he was driving under the influence on the night of the crash.
