Charlotte County Parks and Recreation gave the latest update on Thursday with the ongoing Chadwick Park restoration efforts following the damage caused by Hurricane Milton.
Phase 1, finalized in early April, opened parking and public access to the southern section of the park, issued temporary restroom amenities, cleared a public access point on the north end of the park and piloted the Park-n-Ride Circulator from Tringali Park to Chadwick Park.
Phase 2 of the restoration is currently in progress. Thus far, full environmental fencing of the park, damaged boardwalk removal, stormwater cleanout and preparation for site work have taken place.
Concrete and curbing work began on Thursday according to Charlotte County Parks and Recreation. Restroom amenities will continue to be provided by temporary services, and asphalt work will begin after concrete and curbing.
Gulf Coast News reported on Wednesday that residents angered by the lack of restoration efforts launched a petition urging local and state officials to reopen the beach and parking lot. The petition has now reached more than 1,100 signatures as of Friday.
Future endeavors involve the restroom building reopening, site lighting and boardwalk replacement. Charlotte County Parks and Recreation has yet to announce an expected completion date after Phase 2.
