Even though no sales tax holiday has been finalized yet, it is still important to stop by your local hardware store and grab essentials like batteries, flashlights and a generator.
You could even still get some deals.
Shopper Diane Sylvester said she has more than just a hurricane kit.
“We have a hurricane closet," Sylvester said. "We just have a closet set up with our batteries in it and our flashlights and whatever else we need for the hurricane.”
With hurricane season just now beginning, she did not let the lack of a sales tax holiday hold her back.
“We look for batteries really all year long, and we make sure that we have them pretty much set up at right around this time," Sylvester said.
Stores like Sunshine Ace are offering deals on batteries and other items despite no tax holiday announcement.
Sunshine Ace is even raffling off a generator.
“The more you buy, the more you save," said Sunshine Ace COO Scott Hamblen. "We're here every day to take care of people.”
That means now could be a good time to make investments you can use outside of hurricane season as well.
Power drills can be helpful to power other items like fans or flashlights.
“Afterwards, it comes down to comfort. Comfort could mean a lot of things," Hamblen said "For a lot of people, that's keeping their phone charged. For other people is keeping their house cool, which means a portable air conditioner or a battery powered fan.”
Sylvester said she is prepared so she can be comfortable heading in to hurricane season.
“All people really need to do is prepare ahead of time and therefore, you don't have to be in the long lines," Sylvester said. "You could sit back and enjoy the hurricane.”
