The Gulf Coast Storm Team is closely monitoring an area of interest off the southeastern U.S. coast for tropical or subtropical development in the coming days. Chances for development are low at only 10% over the next week.
If this broad area of low pressure stays offshore, this disturbance could gain tropical or subtropical characteristics as it tracks northeast at 10-15 mph. This poses no threat to the Gulf Coast at this time. This is a very common area for development during the early part of hurricane season. In June, development is most likely in the Gulf, Caribbean or off the U.S. east coast.
