At Naples Cancer Advisors, Alicia Laplant's job is to take vitals and answer patient questions. But her calling is to walk alongside them in their darkest hours.
"I see the calm of the cancer storm," said Alicia. "When I tell them, you know, I just went through this. It's almost like they can breathe for a second."
Two years ago, Alicia was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She went through four rounds of one of the toughest forms of chemotherapy, known as "the red devil."
"They don't let you ring the bell after radiation, but after chemo treatment, I did and almost broke that thing," said Alicia.
Now in remission, Alicia finds joy in turning her pain into purpose.
"I think it was all part of the plan, which is crazy, but it has blessed me in so many weird ways. I never thought I'd say I'm grateful going through that," said Alicia.
Patients like Magen Hardardt are grateful, meanwhile, for Alicia.
"It was nice to just feel safe and normal when talking about this," said Magen.
During a time when fear can easily take over, Alicia proves faith is still an option.
"I have been reborn and given a second chance," said Alicia. "I finally realize that. Now I'm taking that and going forward with that."
