A round of rain and storms will impact the Gulf Coast on Thursday afternoon and evening.
Because of light winds hailing from the east and southeast today, the Gulf sea breeze is expected to remain fairly close to the water.
When this happens areas of western Lee, western Collier and western Charlotte County will have high rain and storm chances.
Coverage of rain will be widest between 3 and 7 p.m.
Though regionwide severe weather isn't expected, any storm that forms will be capable of producing gusty winds, frequent lightning and times of heavy rain. Hail will also be possible in the strongest storms mainly in the late afternoon hours.
The Saharan Air Layer will start playing a bigger role in our weather starting on Friday. As a piece of it gets closer to the peninsula, rain chances will be modestly lower on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Temperatures this weekend will be hot but seasonable, peaking in the low 90s before storms develop in the afternoon hours.
