Florida Southwestern State College is having a Purple Heart College ceremony where the school will be the first college in Southwest Florida to be designated a Purple Heart College.
In order for a college to become a Purple Heart University, the school must develop ways to support the military-affiliated population and veterans.
FSW has done this by having dedicated Purple Heart parking spots on campus, compliance with Florida’s tuition waivers for Purple Heart recipients, new Green Zone Training for faculty and staff to support military students, a mentorship program for transitioning service members and a new Veterans Center.
FSW has also been recognized for being a Military Friendly School and one of the 2024-2025 “Best for Vets” colleges in the nation.
